Skill Roots
Rig discovers skills by scanning skill roots for files named SKILL.md.
Default Roots
The Global accordion in All skills groups these default roots:
| Label | Path |
|---|---|
| Codex | ~/.agents/skills, ~/.codex/skills |
| OpenCode Global Skills | ~/.config/opencode/skills |
| Claude | ~/.claude/skills |
| Hermes | ~/.hermes/skills |
| Cursor | ~/.cursor/skills |
Missing default folders are ignored so you can use only the agent tools you have installed.
Imported Roots
Use Add project to scan a local directory recursively, including skills in nested packages and custom folders. Expand folder accordions to browse the results. Rig stores imported roots in the app data directory and checks whether each path still exists when the app opens.
If an imported folder is deleted or moved, Rig removes it from the selector and returns you to All skills.
Dependency, build, Git, backup, and legacy archive folders are excluded from the active library.
Hide Skills
Right-click a skill and choose Hide from Rig. This only saves a local Rig preference; files stay where your agents can use them. Open Hidden and choose Show in Rig to show it again.
To hide a whole folder, right-click its heading and choose Hide folder from Rig, or use the eye icon beside it. Its subfolders and any skills added later stay hidden too. In Hidden, choose Show folder in Rig to restore the folder. Skills and subfolders you hid separately stay hidden.
Files physically archived by older versions remain listed as Archived file. Use Restore file to move one back when needed.
Skill File Requirements
Rig treats a skill as valid when:
- The file is named
SKILL.md - The file is not empty
- YAML frontmatter exists
- Frontmatter includes non-empty
nameanddescriptionfields - The markdown body is not empty
Example:
---
name: accessibility-audit
description: Audit and improve web accessibility following WCAG guidelines.
---
Use this skill when asked to improve accessibility, keyboard support, or screen reader behavior.Validation States
Invalid skills still appear in the list with an Invalid badge. Select the skill to see the validation message and fix the underlying SKILL.md file.
Common validation issues include missing frontmatter, invalid YAML, missing name, missing description, and empty content.
